Summer 2021

Plans are being made for both a ten-week on-site program and a  virtual program. A final decision has not yet been made about the status of summer research and training programs at MSU.

Summer 2020

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the department held a virtual program this summer. The six-week program included 9 participants from Michigan and around the country. Students worked under the mentorship of chemistry or engineering faculty, and their graduate students, to conduct a literature research or a data analysis project. Student participants met weekly with their mentors for a project meeting to discuss the science and to assess progress. Student participants also engaged in the faculty mentor's weekly research group meeting. Project deliverables included weekly progress reports, a virtual poster presentation at a campus-wide research symposium (Mid-SURE), and a final written project report.

In addition to these research activities, student participants engaged in discussions about responsible conduct of research, mentor-mentee relationships, authorship and plagiarism, data and data management, the value of diversity and importance of inclusion, and transferable skills and leadership.
